The Brooklyn Home:
Modern Havens in the City
The Lodge embodies TBHCo’s hallmark style: creating lived-in and sustainability-focused spaces infused with art and superior craft. This upstate retreat came with an added agenda—it must include space for the entire family, comfortably holding up to 10 loved ones at once. Mission accomplished.
The finished result is the ultimate cozy lodge, with an emphasis on the client’s passion for woodwork, which inspired the reclamation of building materials from wood submerged in the Erie Canal. Bespoke items, such as custom pieces by Artist-in-Residence Fitzhugh Karol—including sculptures, dressers, tables and wall art—are seamlessly incorporated into each space and purposefully grandchildren-friendly, meant to be touched and experienced.
With sustainability always top of mind, the firm used geothermal wells to produce a low-cost and low-carbon footprint for heating and cooling the property, as well as spray foam insulation for additional energy efficiency. The result is a place for respite and relaxation for the whole family.
